A must-have book for those who love central Colorado

Rich Buzzelli was in love with the Garden of the Gods and Pikes Peak. He dedicated his life to photographing the beautiful rock formations and mountains of central Colorado. He specialized in capturing the flow of color and texture of nature's activities, specifically the interplay between the sky, the clouds, the trees. and the rocks. Buzzelli was one of the few artists who have paid the ultimate price for his craft. He was killed by lighting while photographing the scenery of Pikes Peak. Geologic Map of the Eastern Part of the Grand Canyon
Published in Paperback by Grand Canyon Association (December, 1996)
Authors: William Breed, George Billingsley, and Peter Huntoon
Average review score:

A magnificent piece of work.
If you love maps, Grand Canyon, and geology, you will want to have this marvelous map on your wall. It's a big, dramatically colorful geologic map, covering the entire eastern region of the Canyon, where most of the hiking trails are located. Grand Canyon geology is simple and bold, and therefore eminently accessible to the amateur. This map, which makes it even more accessible, is a wonderful companion piece to the handful of geology books about the Canyon, and will inspire you to purchase one if you have not already done so. With a little effort, using the legend in the margin, you will soon learn to pick out every layer of rock that you can observe from the rim or encounter on your hike or float. Needless to say, the map is even more of a treasure-trove to the professional. More than a map, the beautifully printed sheet also includes several cross-sections of the Canyon, revealing what is going on beneath the surface. If you have visited the South Rim you may have seen this map. Two copies are on display in the entrance hall / cocktail lounge of the Arizona Steak House, adjacent to Bright Angel Lodge. Because of its size, it is not a map you would want to carry in your pack, but, tacked up on your wall or unrolled on a table, it will provide plenty of rock-solid lore as you plan your next Canyon adventure or remember the magic of your last visit.

Geological Guide to Mammoth Cave National Park
Published in Paperback by Cave Books (April, 1979)
Average review score:

For the Basic Geology of Mammoth Cave, Look No Further!
Art Palmer has been caving in the area seemingly forever, and the book shows it. Written for the non-geologist yet with plenty of details (& black-and-white pictures), it gives you the tools to understand the cave & it's setting. By using examples from the cave, as well as maps & simple diagrams, the complex nature of cavern formation in this area is explained. The ways that the geology influence the layout of the passages is particularly informative, and the detailed step-by-step evolution of the various levels & passages is covered in detail. Finally, the chapter on the geology of the various tour routes changes the tours from interesting walking trips to a virtual feast, with well-written descriptions and detailed maps. If you like caves like Mammoth and want to learn more about the geology of the longest cave in the world, turn to this book.

Geology of Death Valley National Park: Landforms, Crustal Extension, Geologic History
Published in Paperback by Kendall/Hunt Publishing Company (December, 2001)
Authors: Martin G. Miller and Lauren Wright
Average review score:

A Bridge in Time.
We recently re-visited Death Valley after a period of 30 years. This time, we had the help of the wonderful guide, "Geology of Death Valley" by Martin and Wright. The wonderful pictures really match the splendor of the Valley. The text offers a bit more insight into the world of geology than the usual "been there, done that" kind of guide book one usually finds on display for our national parks. The book forms a bridge between the world of every day living and the wonders of geologic time -- a guide to appreciating the stratigraphy of the valley.

Geology of Ore Deposits
Published in Hardcover by W H Freeman & Co. (February, 1986)
Authors: John M. Guilbert and Charles Frederick Park
Average review score:

The Geology of Ore Deposits
This book, by Guilbert and Park, is the "Bible" for any economic geologist on ore deposits. As a graduate student in geology, I am constantly using it as a reference and use it more frequently than any other book I have. We used another textbook for my economic geology course, but all of us referred to "The Geology of Ore Deposits" when some info was needed. It is also on several professers shelves as well. Well organized and easy to find specific info.

The Geometry of Domains in Space (Birkhauser Advanced Texts)
Published in Hardcover by Birkhauser (28 December, 1998)
Authors: Steven G. Krantz and H. R. Parks
Average review score:

The Geometry of Domains in Space
This book answers many puzzels of mine. I tried hard to read H. Federer's famous book , " geometric Measure Theory", and never finished reading it. Now I find Krantz and Parks' book more accessible and geometrical. Every mathematician working on geometrical analysis and partial differential equations will benefit from this book.

BT SUBJ: REVIEW If this is the book of G.I.'s in WW2, commenting on their episodes of European/Sino warfare, then this is a book to be read to children over the age of 15. For greater impact, (Vet's of WWII), give this to your children's children as a "going away gift" pre-post-humously It's a common user language and expletives are soundly felt as a human-beings reading the rites of a "'last man- of a lost unit", behind enemy lines", signal... I can't go on, but I desire to read the book, "G.I. Diary", once more, so I won't have to launch some kids into another war... Thanks for the opportunity to write my review this review.

The Giant Dipper Roller Coaster : A Pictorial History
Published in Paperback by Amusement Park Publications (01 November, 1991)
Author: Eric Young
Average review score:

A great book about a rare subject
This book is not widely available but it is a real gem, especially from this first printing! It's great that Amazon is now carrying it. I was lucky enough to get a personal, signed copy from the author and really enjoyed it. It is well written and thoroughly researched. Even if you're not from San Diego, you will enjoy this story about the making, unmaking, and revival of a historic roller coaster.

So many authors overlook good topics right near their homes, but this author found a great story and stuck with it. I hope he rolls out another project soon.

Gifts of Deceit: Sun Myung Moon, Tongsun Park, and the Korean Scandal
Published in Hardcover by Holt Rinehart & Winston (April, 1982)
Author: Robert B. Boettcher
Average review score:

A Voice Crying Out in The Wilderness
Robert Boettcher's Gifts of Deceit insightfully and thoroughly documents the activities and findings of the Frazer Committee.

This congressional subcommittee( through it's 1978 report) on International Organizations opened a window on a world in Washington which many would prefer to see closed forever.

The report of this committee informally called the Frazer Report exhaustively documents and details Sun Myung Moon's role in working to shape American foreign policy. It further names a whole host of characters including American politicians, military leaders, Korean diplomats, former Japanese prime ministers, not to mention President Dwight D. Eisenhower who wittingly or unwittingly wound up acting as agents or surrogates for Sun Myung Moon and his "Unification Church".

In addition to reading like a first rate who dunnit Boettcher's book gives the reader a behind the scenes look at official Washington which to this day has done nothing about the principal findings of the Frazer Committee: namely that the Unification Church has engaged in systematic violations of U.S law. Banking and currency laws, securities and exchange commission laws, Immigration and naturalization laws and charities fraud laws.

Boettcher's book is the first book which reveals the global geo-political ambitions of the Moon organization. It is a must for students of foreign relations, students of destructive cults, and for students of the U. S. Constitution particularly those who take an interest in the first and the thirteenth amendments.
